Like ribmaster, I've enjoyed many a fine meal at Johnny Reb's (which is located in north Long Beach [away from the ocean!] by the way). The 'que they serve is
N.Carolina-style rather than Texas-style but is still well worth a visit. Thinking about that vinegar based sauce is making my mouth water right now!!!!! Hope you
enjoy your time in the "International City". p.s. The best and oldest bar in L.B. is called Joe Jost's (located on Anaheim Ave.)- although it's not 'que, go have a cold
schooner of beer, a "special" (polish sausage sandwich) and a couple of pickled eggs--ARRGGGH!!!!! Now I'm REALLY hungry!!!

It's not in Long Beach, but if you're willing to drive 30-40 min. to the San Fernando Valley, then you will find what is arguably the best Texas style Q in SoCal. Take
the 405 north past the 101, get off at Roscoe. Turn right to Sepulveda, and right again. A few blocks down on the left is Dr. Hoagly Wogleys Tyler Texas BBQ.
Enjoy!

You’ve got to be kidding. I wouldn't drive five minutes to Hoagly Woagleys, and that's how far it is from my house. I picked up from there after reading an article in
a Southern Ca. Magazine, despite it’s recommendations of other eateries I wasn’t thrilled with, (I’ve been searching for good Q out here for a while now) and unless
I got them on a REALLY bad night, I'd have to recommend one of those par-boiling, gas grilling Chili’s or Tony Roma type places over it, and I’m not a fan of
par-boiling. I got big thick chunks of tough and chewy brisket. The pork ribs, maybe 8 ½’s and over, were even worse. The sauce tasted like it was straight from an
Indian restaurant. Even the links tasted awful. All that plus two lousy sides for the low, low price of $18.00
a plate! I have a friend who swears that place used to be good. He says it’s up and down. I hope it was down when we went. Don’t mean to step on your toes, but we had such a bad experience there, I couldn’t think of
letting a forum friend, (dare I say friend, having not posted in so long) drive that far with out telling them about our experience.
Nay I say, my friend. Had Dr. Hoagly Woagly ever been to Texas at all, it’s time for a return trip.
