If you want real bbq, go to Carl's, out hwy 6/290, can't remember the exit, call for directions. Go up the tollroad/beltway and go north on 290, about 5 miles on your right. Well worth the trip. If you want commercial bbq, Goode Co. and/or Luther's, both are on I-10 toward town. I have heard tell of a place around Barker/Cypress and I-10 that has an all you can eat bbq buffet. Don't much more info about the place. If you locate the all you can eat place, let me know. I would like to know more about his place. Might be called "Larry's" or something like that.

There are many places in Houston, the best are usually out of the way and have a regular crowd. The commercial places aren't bad, but try and find a "real" place. If you eat at one place, tell them you are from out of town, they will probably know by now anyway :-), ask for another bbq place they would recommend. Most will be willing to give you a name of a great place.
Good luck and let us know what you experienced while in Houston.

Depends on how far you're willing to drive. I'm sure there are some small hole-in-the-wall places around town that serve amazing BBQ in Houston, but I haven't been to that many (maybe some other folks here
can point you out to those). But the one place in Houston that is a sure fire hit is Goode Company BBQ, located on Kirby just off the 59 freeway (Katy Freeway). It's in the middle of town, I'm guessing 30-40 minutes from Katy (just a guess).  The atmosphere is pretty neat (old picnic tables, animal heads, the whole bit), the food is great and varied, and you'll get a good dose of old country music. If you go there, make sure to call ahead and find out when the Goode Company Hall of Flame will be open, which is just right across the street. It is jam-packed with all kinds of neat Texas stuff, some of it just trinkets, but a lot of REALLY cool things. Make sure you hit the beer cooler - they have a selection of ice cold Texas beers that you can crack open, drink as you browse, and pay for when you leave. I've been there a few times. :) There's also a place called Otto's that serves good BBQ. Been there once, don't remember where it is. It's famous for being George Bush Sr's BBQ joint of choice.Hope you enjoy you trip and BBQ. Bring light clothing - BBQ and the
only thing that's hot in Houston.
