BBQ in Albuquerque, NM

Robb's Ribs
There are thousands of ways to barbecue. Lightning probably provided the first taste of barbecue to the cavemen.
Great barbecue depends on three things: The meat, the sauce, and the fire.

OK, enough of the little green men jokes, it's time to get serious.  First of all, be reeeely careful on highway 44 between Farmington and Bernalillo. Lots of firewater being consumed by the wrong kind of people-
drivers. From your Green Sauce post, you are evidently a chilehead. Excellent.

There are two places to eat in Albuquerque, if you have time. The first serves REAL Mexican food, the kind Grandma used to make. It's called El Modelo, on South 2nd street; the wrong side of the tracks,
but for lunch, it's fairly safe. No RV parking, it's strictly takeout. My favorites are the tamale (as big as an ear of corn) and the stuffed sopapilla. Get an order of chicharones (or Carnitas) if your cholesterol level can stand it. To get back on I25, just keep going south on 2nd till you get to Rio Bravo. Hang a left, and it's a mile to the freeway.

The second serves yuppie chow, but it's reeeeal good. The name is Gardunos, and there's one on 4th st north of Paseo del Norte, which used to be the first exit you see entering Albuquerque on I25. Pale  Minnesotans should not be afraid to enter this part of town. If you spend the night, go to the one on Montgomery Blvd, way up in the heights, and ask for one of Clovia's tables. If she's on that night, tell her Stan says hi. No, she won't pour a margarita over your head, she's my sister-in-law. The nice one.

Whatever you do, you've GOT to have sopapillas. Real ones. Brought to your table steaming hot, bite off the corner and fill 'em with honey. Hope you enjoy your stay in NM. You're bound to make some Qer happy
with that maple.
